Ternary organic photodetectors based on pseudo-binaries nonfullerene-based acceptors

Abstract The addition of a third component to donor:acceptor blend is powerful tool enhance the power conversion efficiency organic solar cells. Featuring similar operating mechanism, photodetectors are also expected benefit from this approach. Here, we fabricated ternary photodetectors, based on polymer donor and two nonfullerene acceptors, resulting in low dark current 0.42 nA cm ?2 at V broadband specific detectivity 10 12 Jones. We found that exciton recombination binary reduced devices due formation pseudo-binary microstructure with mixed donor–acceptor phases. With approach wide range intermediate open-circuit voltages accessible, without sacrificing light-to-current conversion. This results photodetector (TOPD) improved Responsivity values near-infrared. Moreover, morphology analyses reveal TOPD showed ordering consequentially higher charge carrier mobilities compared reference devices.
